Being an active member by donating troops and participating in clan wars are the best ways to gain leadership status.
Asking/Begging is annoying.
You don't have to be the best and 3 star every battle. If you're helpful and contribute, give it some time. Your actions are noticed.
Most of all, don't be a dick. Good advice for life too.
